 Information & Services of Agriculture Department:

Information and service sector plays a pivotal role in the dissemination of viable and feasible technology to the farming community for the better adoption of new methods. Some of the service sector along with minimal information of the district stated below:

Community Canning & Training Centre:

Dibrugarh district produces variety of fruits such as banana, pineapple, lemon, guava, papaya etc. and kharif and rabi vegetables. With the aim of reducing the post harvest losses of surplus fruits and vegetables of the district a Community Canning and Training Centre was established to process the surplus fruits and vegetables to a value added product. Community Canning and Training Centre, is headed by the SDAO (CC&TC) facilities for processing of seasonal fruits and vegetables on a domestic basis along with training programme for induction of the educated unemployed, particularly ladies, in processing of such produce to value added products. Facilities for preparation of value-added product such as squashes, jams, jellies, sauces, and pickles etc are made available for the public at a very nominal rate.

Agricultural Marketing:

Agriculture marketing unit of the district is headed by Assistant Agricultural Marketing Officer who is responsible for market survey and also for monitoring of input supply including credit. The marketing unit collects information on market prices; market arrivals etc. of different agricultural commodities on daily and weekly basis and send the information to the state and the central government through NICNET. The Agricultural Marketing unit collects Local Market Rates of various Agricultural Commodities in different markets of the district daily basis. The information is transmitted to the head office at Guwahati from where the  information’s are uploaded in the central server. This step has helped the farmers living in distant places of the district to know about the actual price the consumer is paying for their produce, thereby minimizing the chance of being cheated by the middlemen.

Agricultural Statistics Office:

Statistical wing of the District Agriculture Office is responsible for monitoring of different programme taken up by the department in the district by conducting crop cutting experiments and maintaining statistical records which is headed by a Statistical Officer (Agriculture).

Agricultural Engineering Branch:

Agricultural machineries, implements and equipments under departmental schemes are provided as per schematic provisions by the Engineering wing of the department and also and looks after the various constructional matters of the department. Briefly mentioning some important state sector schemes running under the branch are as follows:

Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY): Under this scheme provision of supplying Tractor, Mini Truck and Mini Rice Mili is going on from the selected beneficiaries at government subsidies of 70%, 30% and 30% respectively for improving the living standard of the farmers.

Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF): With the aim of providing minor irrigation facilities to the farmers field Agricultural Engineering branch also implementing RIDF scheme for establishing Shallow Tube Well (Electricity, Diesel & Solar Power) at 75% government subsidies for increasing the crop yield as well as net farm income.

Under these scheme initiatives of establishing a Soil Testing Laboratory for the district was taken place for helping the farmers by analyzing the fertility status of the farmer’s field for applying adequate amount fertilizer without any loss of money and time.

Agricultural Engineering branch play a crucial role in construction of development structure such seed farms, irrigation facilities, soil testing laboratory as well as implanting government schemes for the betterment of the farmers in the district.

Soil Testing Laboratories:

Soil Testing Laboratory is one of the most important services of the department to help the farmers by analyzing the fertility status of the farmer’s field for applying adequate amount fertilizer without any loss of money and time.

For that purpose, the District Agriculture Officer also takes initiatives to establish a STL for the district and got approval from the Directorate level under RIDF scheme for establishing a STL with an estimated cost of 1.47 Cr. and at this moment almost 98% work has been done as per the report submitted by the Assistant Executive Engineer (Agriculture).

Seed Farms under Agriculture Department and Assam Seed Corporation Ltd:

There are only two seed farms in the district one is under the Department of Agriculture which is under construction in about 13.3 ha of land area located in Kathalguri, Dualiajan named as Pavajan Seed Farm and another one is under the ASCL occupying an area about 3 ha of land located in Moran named as Moran Big Nursery cum Seeds farm which plays a major role in supplying seeds and other inputs to the farmers of the district. The corporation supply inputs to the farmers directly and also through the network of private dealers. However, private wholesalers and retailers are arranging most of the inputs needed in the district.

Administration is the most important part of any organizational set up for successful running of the office as well as the implementation of governmental schemes to reach out the grass root level for betterment of the farming community.
